Peddapalli News

Peddapally, an upcoming and growing city of Telangana ( AP ), a state in South India, PDPL, "a Big Town", is a prominent parliament constituency in the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh.

It is widely recognized as an industrialized town. It has a strong hold on the political face of the state, and is well known for the ever-changing loyalty to a host of parties ranging from Congress, TDP to BJP. Karimnagar contributes two seats(Karimnagar and Peddapalli) in Indian Parliament.

The town manages to hold a few historical places of interest. These include courtyards of kings and a few palaces that are fondly called 'Devidi'. A few sprawling grounds are available for sport officianados, and it is a common sight to see a crowd of people trying to showcase their cricketing

spirit in multiple places within the town. The town is host to great temples and masjids. On the downside are the underlying tensions between Hindus and Muslims. Widely regarded for educational facilities, it is a centre for learning for the surrounding townships. There are a few Cinemas, Theaters and Restaurants.

Air : There is an airstrip at Basantnagar in the outskirts of Karimnagar. The nearest international air port is located at Hyderabad, 192 km away.

Rail : Peddapalli is well connected to all the major cities in India by rail. Kazipet is about two hrs journey from Peddapalli and is a major railway junction on the Bengaluru-New Delhi route.

Road : Peddapally bus station is hub in Karimanagar District and well connected with Warangal, Hanamkonda, Mancherial and Karimnagar. Long-distance deluxe buses ply from Peddapally to Hyderabad, Guntur, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Adilabad, Jagtial, Narasampet, parkal, Khammam, and Bhadrachalam.

Being closer to Ramagundam (a power plant town), Godavarikhani (a Singareni Colliers Company Limited (SCCL) coal mining area), the town has abright industrial prospect. With the increasing trend in literacy and health consciousness, the town is rapidly progressing.

Demographics : As of 2001 Peddapalli town had a population of 3,65,906. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Peddapalli has an average literacy rate of 68%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; At the time of this writing (2009) Peddapalli City's population is nearly 4,00,000.

A majority of population in Peddapalli practice Hindu religion. But there is also a significant impact of Muslim rulers, who ruled this region before Indian independence. The percentages of religions followed here are Hindu 60%, Muslim 28%, Christian 10% and Sikh 2% . Across Peddapalli, there are several hindu temples, mosques, churches, and gurudwars. People belonging to every religion respect each other and co-exist with peace and happiness.

Major Hindu Festivals such as Ugadi, Krishna Janmashtami, Sri Ramanavami, Vinayaka Chavithi, Bathukamma festival, Dasara, Deepavali, Bonalu, Biggest Jatara Sammakka & Saralamma Jatara and Sankranti are celebrated here. Muslims celebrate Ramzan (Id-ul-Fitr) and Bakrid, Milad un Nabi, Shab-e-Meraj, shab-e-barat, shab-e-qadar and Moharram. And Christians celebrate Christmas and Good Friday.
